For more than 14 years, RiskApps has helped insurers, reinsurers and risk managers take greater control of their underwriting philosophy. RiskApps is an independent, subscription-based underwriting manual which comes fully populated and provides comprehensive, evidence-based guidance without the time, cost and resource required to build and maintain a manual from scratch.

RiskApps can be used as a complete underwriting manual out of the box, or as the foundation to create your own. Its content management tools allow clients to adapt our guidance, add their own content and embed their own underwriting philosophy and risk appetite, giving them control without taking on the burden of creating and maintaining the underlying platform.

Why choose RiskApps?

RiskApps has a proven track record. First released in 2012, it has since been used by insurers and reinsurers on every continent except Antarctica. More recently, the platform was rebuilt from the ground up as an open API platform using a proven, modern technology stack, designed to deliver speed, reliability and seamless integration with existing business processes.

That combination of content, technology and flexibility supports long-term partnerships. Our longest-serving client has used RiskApps for 12 years, and we continue to work closely with them to provide the tools that make it easier to keep their underwriting rules engine aligned with their own underwriting philosophy embedded within RiskApps.

A standard RiskApps subscription gives a new client an underwriting manual that can be implemented within days. It includes text and ratings guidance for more than 400 medical topics across the most common product lines, including life, critical illness, and short- and long-term disability cover. Users also benefit from personal and shared notes, calculators and an underwriting worksheet.

And the manual never stands still. Regular content and functionality updates are included as part of the subscription, helping clients keep their guidance current without having to manage the continual cycle of research, review and platform maintenance themselves. In our next article we will write more about our program of updates.

Flexibility is central to RiskApps. Half of our clients use the standard underwriting philosophy as provided, while the other half tailor RiskApps to reflect their own approach, markets and appetite for risk. Content has also been translated into three languages and can be configured for different rating approaches across markets or sales channels.

In short, clients choose the scope they need. Where a more tailored solution is required, we work with them to customise RiskApps around their business, including branding the manual as their own.

We are also developing ways to use AI with RiskApps, from helping sales agents interrogate the content to obtain an indicative rating, to integration with underwriting workbenches. We’ll share more on these developments in a future article.

If greater control, consistency and flexibility in your underwriting guidelines sounds valuable, we’d be delighted to show you what RiskApps can do.
